How EVT3D compares

How EVT3D compares with other event design software.

Most event teams already own some of these tools, and each does one part of the job well. This page sets out what each kind of software is built for and where EVT3D fits, so you can pick the right tool for each stage of the work.

General 3D modelers: SketchUp, 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D

General-purpose 3D tools can model and render almost anything, and many event designers use them. Every event element — decks, truss, LED panels, chairs — is modeled or sourced by hand, and the client usually sees exported images or video.

EVT3D is narrower on purpose: its builders already speak production (stage decks, step units, LED panels, drape, seating sections), its library is event gear at true size, and the client opens the live 3D design from a link. Models from those tools come in as uploaded props on paid plans.

Entertainment CAD: Vectorworks Spotlight, AutoCAD

CAD produces the drafted plates and engineered paperwork a build depends on. EVT3D doesn't replace it and doesn't produce stamped plan sets. It covers the stretch before that — idea, proposal, client approval and pre-production — and exports GLB or FBX (beta, Pro and Enterprise) for the next tool.

Lighting previsualization: WYSIWYG, Capture

Lighting previz tools connect to consoles so programmers can build a show before they reach the venue. EVT3D has no DMX or console connection. It shows lighting intent — fixtures, beams, washes, Looks — as part of the whole event design.

Event diagramming and floor plan tools

Event floor plan tools such as Social Tables, Tripleseat Floorplans, 3D Event Designer and Prismm are built around venue sales, seating charts and banquet diagrams for planners and venues.

EVT3D is built around production: parametric staging, LED walls from real panels, truss and chain hoists, lighting with live shadows, I-MAG and sightline checks, for the teams who design and build the show.

Rendering studios

A rendering studio delivers finished images from a brief, with a turnaround on each round of changes. In EVT3D the designer renders the event in real time and shares it as a live 3D link, so revisions happen in the meeting.

Where EVT3D fits

  • Runs in a web browser; nothing to install.
  • Built for live events: general sessions, galas, concerts and exhibits.
  • Clients review from a link, with no account, including in VR headset browsers.
  • Free plan with no credit card.

Questions we get

Is EVT3D a SketchUp alternative for events?

For event concept and client approval, yes: it replaces hand-modeling event gear with builders and a library at true size, and replaces exported images with a live 3D link. For modeling anything outside events, SketchUp is still the general tool.

Does EVT3D replace Vectorworks?

No. Vectorworks produces engineered drawings and paperwork. EVT3D is for designing and approving the event before that stage, and exports GLB or FBX (beta) for downstream tools.

Can I bring my existing 3D models into EVT3D?

Yes, on paid plans: GLB, GLTF, OBJ and FBX uploads become props in your library.
