EVT3D
Walkthrough movies

A 3D event walkthrough video, recorded from the design.

Some approvals need a file: something to drop into a deck, play in a boardroom or send to the event team. Record Movie makes it from the design you already built. The camera follows your Viewpoint Tour through the room, and EVT3D saves the flythrough as an MP4.

The Movie is recorded one frame at a time, so every frame is clean and the video playing on your LED walls and screens stays in step with the picture.

Free plan, no credit card. Nothing to install.

How Record Movie works

  • Save the views you want as Viewpoints and chain them into a Viewpoint Tour. The Movie follows that Tour, gliding from one Viewpoint to the next. With no Tour, the camera turns slowly around the current view.
  • Open Record Movie from the Capture panel and choose the size, frame rate, samples and length. One Tour sets the length to a single pass of the Tour.
  • Before you press Record, the dialog shows about how long the recording will take and how large the file will be.
  • While it records, a progress card shows the percent done and the time left, with a Stop button. You can minimize the window and do other work.
  • The finished MP4 is saved to your computer.

Size, frame rate and samples

  • Size: 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K.
  • Frame rate: 24, 30 or 60 frames per second.
  • Samples: how many times each frame is drawn and averaged, from 1 to 64. More samples give cleaner edges and quieter reflections, and take that much longer to record.
  • Length: from one second to ten minutes.

Video on the screens stays in sync

An event design usually has content on its screens. A screen recording of a live 3D view drops frames when the scene is heavy, and the content on the screens stutters with it. Record Movie steps the scene and the content together: for each frame of the Movie it shows the matching frame of every uploaded video, so two screens playing two videos stay locked to each other from start to finish. Loops run on the Movie's clock the same way.

A live stream cannot be stepped like that, so it appears frozen in a Movie. The dialog warns you before you record and names the fix: upload the content as a video file, or use a Loop.

A Movie, a Capture or a viewer link

  • Capture: a high-resolution still of one view, for the proposal page.
  • Share Mode viewer link: the live 3D design in the client's browser, to explore on their own.
  • Movie: a fixed walkthrough you direct shot by shot, for a slide deck, a screen in the meeting room or anyone who will not open a link.

What it needs, and its limits

  • Record Movie is on Pro.
  • It records in a desktop browser. Chrome and Edge work best: they write the file to disk as it is made. Phones and tablets cannot record.
  • Recording takes longer than the Movie runs, more so at 4K and at high sample counts. The estimate in the dialog is timed on your machine and your scene.
  • MP4 is the only format.
  • The camera path is the Viewpoint Tour: a glide between saved Viewpoints with a stop at each. There is no keyframe timeline and no motion blur.

Questions we get

How do I make a 3D walkthrough video of an event design?

Build the design in EVT3D, save the views you want as Viewpoints, chain them into a Viewpoint Tour, then open Record Movie in the Capture panel. Choose the size and the frame rate, press Record, and an MP4 of the walkthrough is saved to your computer.

What resolution and frame rate can I record?

720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K, at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second, up to ten minutes long.

How long does a walkthrough take to record?

Longer than it runs. The design itself runs in real time, but a Movie is drawn one frame at a time, and each frame can be drawn several times and averaged. The dialog times your scene and tells you about how long it will take before you start. You can minimize the window while it works.

Is EVT3D event animation software?

Not in the general sense. There is no keyframe timeline. Record Movie does one job: it turns the Viewpoint Tour of an event design into a clean flythrough. For titles, cuts and music, bring the MP4 into a video editor.
